Watch Mickelson play ping-pong on ‘Today Show’

Visit for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy Phil Mickelson needed his A game to win last week’s British Open, but he didn’t even need his C game to take care of Today Show host Matt Lauer in ping-pong [see video above]. Mickelson appeared on the Today Show to promote his Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy, which helps teach science and match concepts to elementary school students.
In the 4-minute segment, Mickelson talked to Lauer about how his victory at the British Open was the most rewarding of his career, and followed his most disappointing loss at the U.S. Open at Merion.
“This is the biggest accomplishment of my career because this the one tournament that’s always given me problems,” Mickelson said. “I had to change a lot of my game and practice hard to develop the skills to win this British Open and to play the best round of my life.”
After the interview, Mickelson and Lauer headed to the ping-pong table, where Mickelson didn’t break a sweat against Lauer as he explained how the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teacher Academy uses activities like ping-pong to teach kids about physics. Maybe Lauer needs to bring in Mickelson’s ping-pong rival Tiger Woods next time.
