Bubba Watson records ace in Masters practice round

If Bubba Watson needed another memorable shot at Augusta National, he got one Wednesday morning when he aced the par-3 16th during a practice round.

Gearing up for his green jacket defense, Watson played the back nine with Scott Piercy. Even though Watson had little to say about the hole-in-one after his round, Piercy described the scene to The Chicago Tribune.

“Arms in the air, big smile, like a little kid in the candy store,” said
Scott Piercy. “That was really
cool. To do it on 16 at the Masters, I’m sure it’s something he’ll never
forget. And I can tell my kids that Bubba Watson made a hole-in-one
here, and I saw it.”

Bubba did respond to a question on Twitter about his hole-in-one from WeiUnderPar.com’s Stephanie Wei:

Fifteen aces have been recorded on 16 in the 80-year history of the tournament and we saw two last year during Sunday’s final round from Adam Scott and Bo Van Pelt. Watson’s nine-iron would be the highest lofted club on the list of clubs used, which includes a 2-iron, a spade mashie and a mashie niblick.
Watson played the 16th in 2-under last year with two birdies and two pars. His quest to become the fourth back-to-back champion in Masters history begins Thursday morning as he tees off at 10:34 a.m. with Ian Poulter and Steven Fox.
