Rolling with K.J.

SOUTHPORT, England – Among those who boarded Continental flight #0020 from Newark to Manchester with me last Sunday night was K.J. Choi, your tournament leader midway through the 137th British Open. While I didn’t see much of K.J. during the flight — he was in business class, yours truly was in coach — an eyewitness told me that he slept most of the way across the pond and played Sudoku during the last hour of the flight.
As we all headed to customs, K.J. seemed better rested than I was. I said hello (I covered both of his wins at the Memorial and At&T National one year ago) and didn’t think I’d run into him much at Birkdale. Maybe I should have known better. K.J. has become a regular presence on major championship leader boards. Personally, though, I think it was his comfy seat on the way over that fueled his solid play in tough conditions.
