3-2-4. Some new area code? Actually, those are the scores Craig Perks carded on his final three holes to win the 2002 Players Championship by two shots over Stephen Ames. A chip-in eagle, a twisting birdie putt, and a chip-in par. Over the last hour of that championship, Perks had morphed into Tom Watson.
Following the win, Perks’s peers started calling him "3-2-4." Even I called him "3-2-4" one day when I ran into him at Frog’s, a gym in Solana Beach frequented by pros, media types and locals during the week of the Buick Invitational.
Perks never had another day like that Sunday at the Players. In fact, he never won again. In honor of the start of Players Championship week, here is a cool story on what Perks is up to now.
