Tiger Woods ends practice round with bang

June 16, 2009

It was only a practice round, but Tiger Woods got a reaction worthy of a Sunday birdie on the 18th green at Bethpage Black this morning.Tiger's approach shot from the middle of the fairway skipped twice on the green and bounced off the flagstick. The ball rolled about 10 feet back down a slope, and Woods calmly rolled in the putt. It's only Tuesday, but the crowd cheered as if he'd just clinched his second straight U.S. Open victory.Woods teed off on the back nine at 7 a.m. Tuesday morning with Andrew Svoboda, who got into the U.S. Open after Robert Karlsson withdrew with an eye infection. It's the second straight year Svoboda has gotten into the U.S. Open as an alternate.
