O’Hair withdraws, and Wolstenholme is in

Wolstenholme_300 Good news and bad news for Gary Wolstenholme, right, the 47-year-old former British Amateur champion and the first alternate for the U.S. Open.
The good news? He got in the Open early Wednesday afternoon when Sean O’Hair withdrew with a pulled chest muscle.
The bad news? He lost whatever slim chance remained for him to play in the premier pairing on Thursday and Friday with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. Adam Scott, the third member of that group, has a broken pinkie finger on his right hand but is expected to play.
Scott’s new potential replacement is Andrew Svoboda, a former St. John’s player from Larchmont, N.Y. He grew up playing Winged Foot, where he won the club championship four straight years. Svoboda, 28, also made it to the quarterfinals of the ’04 U.S. Amateur at Winged Foot. Later in ’04, he won the Met Open and turned pro.
He has never made it past the second stage of the PGA Tour qualifying tournament and is currently playing on the Hooters Tour. Now he’s just a heartbeat away from joining Woods and Mickelson for the first two rounds.
