McIlroy and Woods were paired together for the opening two rounds at the 2013 WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral. McIlroy entered the week ranked No. 1, while Woods was No. 2. (Luke Donald, ranked No. 3, was the third member of the threesome.) Woods shot 66-65 in the opening two rounds and went on to win the event. McIlroy shot 73-69, but rallied on the weekend to finish tied for eighth.

Woods and McIlroy were paired together for the first two rounds of the 2013 Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. It was McIlroy's first event after announcing a blockbuster endorsement deal with Nike, but the event was a dud for both players, as each failed to make the cut.

McIlroy and Woods met in early October at the eight-man World Golf Final in Turkey. Woods thumped McIlroy in their stroke-play match, 64-70, before losing to Justin Rose in the semifinals.

At the 2012 Barclays at Bethpage Black, Woods and McIlroy were once again paired together for the opening two rounds. McIlroy shot 69-73 and tied for 24th, while Woods went 68-69 before fading on the weekend and tying for 38th.
