The Big Three on Friday Tiger Woods, Adam Scott and Phil Mickelson started on the 10th hole Friday. Woods bogeyed the 10th and 12th before making eagle on the 13th.

"I'm only four over par, and a good round tomorrow gets me in it for Sunday, and that's the goal," he said.

"I didn't get the momentum of the round," Mickelson said.

"I didn't hit enough fairways today," Mickelson said. "I've got to hit the balls in the fairway. When I do I'm able to play the course effectively. I'm able to make some birdies, make easy pars. When I don't, it's been very tough."

"All I can tell you is it's sore," Woods said of his knee. "It is what it is. Nothing more, nothing less."

"I felt that if I played well in the back nine, I could definitely get back to even par for the tournament," Woods said, "and I would be right back in the championship. And all of a sudden I started running them in there from everywhere."

Mickelson has six bogeys and two birdies to shoot four-over 74.

"This golf course is only going to get harder and more difficult," Woods said. "It doesn't take much, just make a couple of mistakes here and there. This golf course will bite you quick. And you just have to hang in there and stay patient."

After shooting 38 on his first nine, Woods heated up. He birdied Nos. 1, 2, 4, 5 and 9 for a five-under 30, one shot off the Open record for nine holes. He is two under for the tournament, one behind the leader, Stuart Appleby.
