It’s the same knee doctors operated on in 1994 to remove a benign tumor, and the same knee Woods injured while running at home in Orlando the previous year. Doctors later tell Woods he has two stress fractures in his left tibia, too.

2008 | Comeback Postponing surgery, Woods wins the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, beating Rocco Mediate in 19 extra holes, on a severely damaged left leg.

2008 | Setback Woods undergoes total reconstructive surgery, missing the remainder of the season, including the British Open at Royal Birkdale and the PGA Championship at Oakland Hills -- both won by Padraig Harrington.

The diagnosis: a grade-one mild medial collateral ligament sprain to his left knee and a mild strain to his left Achilles' tendon. He skips the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow.
