Jim Furyk, the 2003 champ, made four straight birdies on the back nine to shoot 66. "I'm glad to get off and make some good putts and get a good score out there to start the week," Furyk said.

Brett Quigley made an eagle on the par-4 14th on his way to a seven-under 65. "I pitched it in from 50 yards, so that was certainly a nice way to kind of jump start the round, and all of a sudden I'm 4-under and right there," Quigley said.

John Daly made five birdies and two bogeys to open with a 69. "I'm going into Kid Rock's studio and watch him finish his album," said Daly of his after-round plans.

Woody Austin, who won earlier this year at the Stanford St. Jude Championship, opened with a seven-under 65. "I was never under the gun too much to save any pars," Austin said. "I put the ball where I had to put it. I never had any difficult downhill sliders or crazy putts, and I made some."
