Controversial mini golf course installed in English cathedral

August 2, 2019

Putt, putt, pray? Churchgoers will be able to do exactly that soon at Rochester Cathedral, located just outside of London.

A mini golf complex has been constructed within the cathedral and its design is focused on many bridges. Reverend Rachel Phillips has said those bridges are included to draw connections for people to the bridges that must be built in their own lives spiritually.

The course is expected to be open for play for the month of August alone, and despite that short timeframe, it has become quite the divisive topic. Telegraph columnist Tim Stanley called the placement of a mini golf course in a cathedral “an act of desecration,” and it’s become clear he’s not alone in that thinking.

The course is being used as a way to help people visit the building when they otherwise might not. It is not open during church service.

Check out a video of the course being constructed below.
