WATCH: Epic back-to-back hole-outs at Bethpage’s 17th sends crowd into frenzy

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — A relatively tame crowd at Bethpage Black was finally given something to cheer for Sunday during brutal conditions. They just had to wait until nearly 5 p.m.

Lucas Bjerregaard and Lucas Glover combined to jolt some life into the afternoon at the PGA Championship with back-to-back hole outs on the par-3 17th.

First came Bjerregaard, who struck his 6-iron from the tee box, 206 yards away from the hole. It soared to the green, took one hop forward and landed in the cup for an ace. Glover, who had hit first, was well on his way to the hole, but was forced back to congratulate Bjerregaard on the hole-in-one.

Next up was Glover, who had flown the green and landed in the back bunker. It can be a brutal location for anyone, and Glover did great to just punch it out and onto the green. But that’s the best part. His ball rolled and rolled and rolled until it landed in the cup as well.

Bethpage Black was in need of some energy Sunday afternoon. The course played more difficult Sunday than it has all week, with the lowest rounds finishing at two-under 68.
