WATCH: AT&T Byron Nelson leader Sung Kang takes nap ahead of final round

May 12, 2019

Imagine having a 7:30 a.m. tee time to play the back nine of a round you couldn’t finish the day before, and then having to play a full 18 holes later in the day. Pretty tiring just thinking about, right?

Sung Kang would certainly agree. The 54-hole leader at the AT&T Byron Nelson decided to sneak in a quick nap between the third and final rounds at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas. Here’s Kang snoozing on a lounge chair before his 2:12 p.m. ET tee time.

Kang and his playing partners, Matt Every and Tyler Duncan, were the final group to go out for Saturday’s third round. While originally scheduled to begin play at 12:40 p.m. ET, the trio would not start until 5:40 p.m. due to inclement weather that delayed much of the third round. As a result, the grouping could only get nine holes in.

So, the three players began their back nine at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. Kang, who trailed Every by one shot when play was suspended due to darkness on Saturday night, took control of the leaderboard by nailing three birdies over the final nine holes on Sunday morning. He finished with a three under 68 third round score to open up a three shot lead at 19 under over Every heading into the final 18 holes on Sunday afternoon.

If Kang holds on to earn his first PGA Tour victory, the power nap could be the difference maker.
