Matt Kuchar extends his lead, and other things you missed from Round 2 of the Mayakoba

The birdie barrage continued at El Camaleon in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, and by the looks of the leaderboard, it will be an exciting weekend south of the border.

Here’s what you missed from Round 2 of the Mayakoba Golf Classic.

Matt Kuchar extended his lead

Yesterday’s seven-birdie-zero-bogey round was no fluke, and Kuch kept his foot on the gas pedal in Round 2. This time, he bagged eight birdies, with a lone bogey on No. 12 as the spoiler.

But if you’ve ever wondered what it is that makes these pros so good, the video below is a perfect example. It’s holing putts like that — for bogey!

Kuchar is seeking his eighth career Tour victory, and his first win since 2014.

Cameron Champ shot 62

Champ put on an incredible display on Friday, carding eight birdies and an eagle en route to a nine-under-par 62.

The 23-year-old Tour rookie has been lighting up the fall season, with a win at the Sanderson Farms Championship in October and two top-30 finishes in his first three events.

Jordan Spieth missed the cut

Spieth made headlines earlier this week for deciding to put his old driver and 3-wood back in play after firing disappointing weekend rounds of 71-72 at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open last week, and apparently, he still has some work to do.

After a round of even par on Thursday, a two-under-par 69 on Friday wasn’t enough to make the weekend in Mexico, and he missed the cut by two shots.

On the bright side, Spieth does have his upcoming wedding to look forward to.
