The news from across the pond wasn’t all sunshine for the Trump Organization.
Just as Trump announced his purchase of the struggling Doonbeg Golf Club (soon to be renamed Trump International Golf Links, Ireland), Lord Doherty of the Court of Session in Edinburgh rejected Trump’s appeal challenging the construction of a wind farm off the stretch of Aberdeenshire coast occupied by Trump International Golf Links, Scotland.
Trump had mounted a legal challenge to have a decision allowing for construction of a 230 million pound European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC) made by Scottish ministers overturned. The resulting facility would be an eyesore, according to Trump, and negatively impact the value of the golf, potential lodging and real estate at his Menie project.
Lord Doherty disagreed. “He was not persuaded that the fair-minded and informed observer would conclude that there was a real possibility of bias on the part of the decision-maker,” said the Judiciary of Scotland on its website. “Or that the decision not to have a public inquiry had been unreasonable or unlawful.”
The Trump Organization responded with the following statement: “We will appeal this decision and in the meantime we will be focusing all of our investment and energy towards our new acquisition on the Atlantic Ocean in Ireland.”
