The 97th PGA Championship kicks off Thursday at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisc. Will Jordan Spieth win his third major of the year? Will Rory McIlroy rally from his ankle injury and defend his PGA title? Or will we crown another out-of-the-blue major champion?
We GOLF Magazine’s Top 100 teachers who they thought would win the Wanamaker Trophy. Their picks won’t surprise you.
Tied with 24 percent of the vote are two-time major winner Spieth and four-time Tour winner Jason Day. Both players came just one stroke short of the playoff at the British Open last month, eventually won by Zach Johnson.
Just behind those two, at 21 percent, is a familiar face: Dustin Johnson. The nine-time Tour winner has been in the hunt at each major this season but has yet to finish on top of the leaderboard.
With regards to Tiger Woods, however, the Top 100 Teachers weren’t so kind. Not a single teacher picked Woods to win this week, though most of them do expect him to make the cut.
