Suite of the Week: The Ritz-Carlton Suite at Dove Mountain
What beats staying at one of the best properties in golf? Booking the best room there. In this installment, we spotlight the Ritz-Carlton Suite at Dove Mountain. Check back here weekly for another swank suite.
Where: Marana, Ariz.
Nightly rate: $999-$2,499
What’s inside: The 2,072-square-foot spread houses a double-sided fireplace that divides the living room from the dining room, a butler kitchen with separate service entrance, a dining room table that seats six, and three balconies that peer out at the imposing Tortolita Mountains and at some of the most awe-inspiring cactus-studded canyons in the Tucson area. Classic Ritz-Carlton service touches predominate. When we asked for some bedding for the pullout sofa, housekeeping inquired, “Do you prefer feather or foam?”
What else you get: During the six editions of the WGC-Accenture Match Play at the Golf Club at Dove Mountain (2009-14), two things never changed: the pros griping about the greens … and gloating about the accommodations next door. The Ritz boasts a state-of-the-art spa that melds seamlessly with its eco-holistic therapies. Don’t miss the Core Kitchen and Wine Bar, a sleek, glass-infused wonder, with innovative cuisine that matches the décor.
And, yes, there’s golf too: 27 holes of a Jack Nicklaus Signature design that until 2013 was known as the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Dove Mountain. Big Jack softened the greens after the 2009 event, though they remain vexing today. The Saguaro/Tortolita nines formed the tournament combo, each rolling out ample landing areas, deep bunkers and stunning mountain and desert scenery. Nicklaus’ favorite nine is Wild Burro, which sat on the sideline during the Match Play only for logistical reasons.
For smaller budgets: “Unlimited Golf for Two” packages start at $659 per room, per night, whether single or double occupancy, good through Aug. 15, 2015.
