Move over, Naples, Florida, and Scottsdale, Arizona, here comes Prattville, Alabama.
According to MONEY magazine’s annual “Best Places to Retire” guide, Prattville (population 34,470, just northwest of Montgomery) is the best place for golf lovers to while away their golden years.
Prattville rated highly for its three affordable, if oddly named, public courses—the Judge, the Legislator and the Senator—and its location in the heart of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, which the magazine describes as “a 468-hole, 26-course putters’ paradise.” There are 24 courses within 30 miles of the town.
Downtown Prattville “feels like a New England village” and has an abundance of dining and shopping options. MONEY reports a medium home price of $150,415 and an average property tax of $490.
The runners-up in the “Golf Lovers” category were Clermont, Florida; Stillwater, Oklahoma; and Fishers, Indiana.
The full story appears in the July issue of MONEY and is not yet available online.
