Matthew Wolff will make pro debut at Travelers Championship as a TaylorMade staffer

Matthew Wolff won’t be returning to Oklahoma State for his junior year. The amateur standout with the unconventional swing announced on social media that he’ll be making his professional debut the week following the U.S. Open at the Travelers Championship.

“I’m PUMPED to officially start my career as a professional golfer this month @travelerschamp!!” Wolff said in the social media post. “It‘s been the journey of a lifetime so far & I’m forever grateful for my #wolffpack and everyone who’s supported me each step of the way. Can’t wait to tee it up… let’s do the dang thing #TeamTaylorMade”

Wolff departs Oklahoma State as one of the school’s most decorated players. He won the 2019 individual title at the NCAA Championship and was recently honored with the Fred Haskins Award and Jack Nicklaus Award. Additionally, he finished the year with a school-best stroke average of 68.69 after logging 21 rounds in the 60s.

The “#TeamTaylorMade” hashtag at the end of the post is a good indication of Wolff’s equipment future. The video was shot at TaylorMade’s The Kingdom training and technology center and shows Wolff pounding balls with one of the company’s M6 drivers. A quick shot of Wolff’s staff bag shows his name on the front zipper panel and a full bag of TaylorMade gear inside.

While TaylorMade has yet to send a formal release announcing Wolff’s signing, it’s safe to assume a deal is already in place for all 14 clubs and the golf ball. With Wolff in the fold, TaylorMade boasts a staff that includes arguably the most coveted amateur in the sport, Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Jason Day and Rickie Fowler for the golf ball.

Wolff is the latest high-profile amateur to join TaylorMade following the brand’s recent deal with Cal standout Collin Morikawa.

Wolff has yet to sign an apparel deal, but with Oklahoma State currently under contract with Nike, all signs point to the Swoosh being the leader in the clubhouse for his signature. It’s probably not a coincidence that Wolff was sporting the school’s Nike apparel in the video.
