KEY TECHNOLOGIES: Eleven laser-etched lines between each groove increase spin on partial swings.
LOOK: Wilson got this one right — nothing funny or gimmicky, and the etched face has fangs; clean, tailored head exudes old-school cool; the finish looks good from every angle.
FEEL: A few clicks firmer than the finest wedges tested; exact, honest feedback — draws a map to your misses and helps you improve on them; nice, hefty head powers through the turf.
DISTANCE CONTROL: Excels in close — easy to find your yardage on three-quarter swings down to controlled little pitch shots; finds a balance between scrubbing spin for full shots and revving it up greenside.
PLAYABILITY: A bunker buster — an absolute stud out of the sand; a short-side specialist with lots of spin that can bring you back from the dead; the gentle “C”-shaped sole allows you to get under the ball, even in tight lies.
To some testers, the FG Tour PMP isn’t much to look at — too straightforward and solemn; other guys find that it becomes less effective the farther you get from the pin; the meaty Wide sole might not agree with everyone.
BOTTOM LINE: The FG Tour PMP can be easy to overlook, but our testers agree: It’s a well-rounded wedge with a certain flair for the dramatic around the greens.
