Tour Edge Exotics XCG7 Driver
Category: Max Game-Improvement Drivers
WE TESTED: 9.5° with Fujikura Fuel graphite shaft; 9.5° with Fujikura Fuel Tour graphite shaft
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: Multiple loft settings in one clubhead. Lighter head than average for more swing speed. Loft settings run from 8.5° to 12° in 0.5° increments. Four rear weight pads help stabilize the head on misses. Loft settings run from 8.5° to 12° in 0.5° increments.
DISTANCE: The XCG7 is on par with many testers’ current sticks; a few panelists benefit by adding loft to this club during the fitting process to max out distance.
ACCURACY/FORGIVENESS: Some guys find that off-center hits are masked well and produce acceptable results; square hits deliver the accuracy you expect; a few testers make mention of the stable shaft and relatively low spin rates.
FEEL: The club feels stable during the swing and through impact; hitting it on the screws produces a muted sound and a soft feel.
PLAYABILITY: Testers like the medium ball flight, which appears to be a bit lower than other drivers tested in the category.
LOOK: Classic, unassuming club doesn’t try to stun the player with loud graphics; dark-gray matte finish controls reflections and promotes a positive vibe at address.
Many testers are left wanting more yards; some guys don’t feel rewarded on good shots due to its lower-decibel feedback; others don’t feel club produces a consistent, repeating flight.
BOTTOM LINE: An understated stick that provides respectable distance with a subdued sound and feel.
