Titleist Scotty Cameron Select Newport M2 Putter Review: ClubTest 2016
TITLEIST SCOTTY CAMERON SELECT NEWPORT M2
CATEGORY: Midsize Mallet Putters
WE TESTED: 34″, 35″ length
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: A lightweight aluminum face insert wraps into the sole to increase MOI.
DISTANCE CONTROL: Terrific output—balls track quickly to the hole on all types of strokes; putts inside six feet are automatic; lags lead to tap-ins once you get used to it.
FEEL: Excellent balance between the heavier head and soft face; minor misses have little change in feel or sound; extra heel-toe mass keeps the putter gliding square through impact.
LOOK: Resembles an oversize blade, and sets up so easily; the face insert extends to an X-shape on the sole, which gives it a slick look; cross-shaped mark on the flange is a dynamite visual aid.
A few testers would go for a slightly firmer feel at impact; the look of a squarish mallet head doesn’t suit everyone; sticker shock can be a concern.
BOTTOM LINE: Like its larger sibling, the Select Newport M2 offers superior feel, looks, and overall performance. Anyone in the market for a high-end mid-mallet or oversize blade should try one.
