TaylorMade and Microsoft Partner on New Smart Technology

June 18, 2015

TaylorMade Golf and Microsoft have partnered to develop two new platforms that provide shot tracking and analysis capabilities through the use of the Microsoft Band.

Originally developed by Microsoft Health to help people track their fitness goals like heart rate, steps, calorie burn, and sleep quality, the Microsoft Band now offers the Golf Tile, which provides GPS yardages to front, middle, and back of the green, a digital scorecard and biometrics that gives fitness information during the course of a round.

After the round players can also find a summary of all the information on the Microsoft Health phone app (iOS, Android, and Windows) or Microsoft Health web dashboard.

“We are excited to bring the golf experience to the Microsoft Band,” said Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president, Microsoft Devices and Services. “The combination of walking several miles with the physical rigor that goes into playing a round provides a great opportunity for Microsoft Health and Microsoft Band to track our golf customers’ fitness and provide observations to help take their game to the next level.”

In addition to the Golf Tile the Microsoft Band will soon also feature myRoundPro from TaylorMade, a unique analytics platform designed to work in conjunction with the Golf Tile and Microsoft Health. This new platform will further analyze players’ stats and provide additional data including strokes gained, proximity to the hole, fairway hit and greens in regulation. Anyone interested can sign up prior to the official launch of myroundPro at myroundpro.com.

“Digital technology is playing a bigger part in peoples’ lives today,” said David Abeles, CEO of TaylorMade Golf Company. “This is no different in the golf space, so it was a natural fit to partner with Microsoft in developing this innovative platform, aimed at enhancing the golfers experience through a series of unprecedented smart technologies.”

The Microsoft Band is available in Microsoft Stores, at Amazon, Best Buy and Target and at microsoftstore.com.
