The newest edition of Rory McIlroy-inspired Nike golf shoes is here, and it’s hot.
McIlroy has worn a number of different flashy styles on his feet, including the limited edition Lunar Control 3 kicks he sported at the 2015 Masters and the kid-designed version he wore at the Irish Open. The style of the Lunar Control 4 follows suit.
“I have been looking forward to wearing this shoe for quite some time,” said McIlroy. “It’s a design I’ve been involved with ever since my first year with Nike.”
The Lunar Control 4 features Dynamic Nike Flywire technology for support in the middle of the sole. A new feature that Nike calls a “robust counter heel” is designed to stabilize the heel. To improve flexibility and overall fit, the tongue wraps around the ankle and breaks naturally when walking and swinging, and the upper is made from a lightweight microfiber designed to be non-restrictive.
Last but not least — and probably most notable — is the large Nike swoosh that blankets the toe of the shoe, a nod to the Nike Mercurial soccer cleat.
McIlroy will be wearing the Lunar Control 4 at this week’s DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. The shoes will be available to consumers on November 27 on nike.com and will be available in three color ways for men (black/white, white/wolf grey, white/bright crimson) and women (black/white, white/wolf grey, pure platinum/bright crimson).
Here’s a cool look at early sketches of the Lunar Control 4.
