MIZUNO JPX-EZ IRONS

CATEGORY: Max Game Improvement Irons
PRICE: $800, steel; $900, graphite
WE TESTED: 4–GW with True Temper XP 95 steel shafts and 4-GW with Orochi graphite shafts
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: The dual-pocket cavity and multi-thickness face yield fast ball speeds.

PROS

PLAYABILITY: One of the higher-rated models; effective from various lies and easier to manipulate than most Max Game Improvement irons; slight draw bias works nicely if you struggle with a slice.
ACCURACY/FORGIVENESS: Heel and toe hits travel toward the target with little distance loss; they fly super straight, which virtually eliminates serious mistakes; hitting your desired target is a breeze with these sticks.
DISTANCE CONTROL: Predictable results; short irons can be dialed in to find the flag; comparable with guys’ normal clubs.
FEEL: A fan favorite — as much feedback as you can expect without any sting on misses; rock solid at impact with a click on center strikes.
LOOK: Classy and understated — testers like the matte gray finish; a nice setup, not big or bulbous behind the ball.

CONS

Not quite as forgiving as some would like; a few guys want more length; solid feel at impact but doesn’t live up to the buttery soft bar set by Mizuno forgings.

BOTTOM LINE: The JPX-EZ is one of the highest-rated models in the Max Game Improvement category. It’s an accurate club, looks great for its class and provides a high degree of playability and feel. A broad range of golfers will enjoy these sticks.
