Aimed at being user-friendly, the Callaway Steelhead XR clubheads are longer from heel to toe and deeper from front to back than previous XR models.
A low and deep CG combines with the bigger size for added forgiveness and ease of use. The clubface is larger too, and it has an updated face cup that generates faster ball speeds. (Bigger isn’t always better, but in this case a larger head with more effective hitting area is definitely a good thing.) Plus, a more aerodynamic shape improves airflow — and speed — during the swing, while a reconfigured sole design reduces friction through the ground at impact.
Available in 3H, 4H, 5H and 6H with choice of True Temper XP 95 stepless steel shafts or Matrix F15 graphite. $219 each; in stores Sept. 2.
