BRAINSTORM HAPPY (MIDSIZE MALLET)

CATEGORY: Midsize Mallet Putters
PRICE: $280
WE TESTED: 34″, 35″ length
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: A modern, iridescent finish complements the classic head shape.

PROS

DISTANCE CONTROL: Center strikes hug the line from every distance, and the big face means there‚Äôs plenty of “center” to find.
FEEL: Well-balanced and easy to swing; produces a soft click when you hit the sweet spot; a slightly harder feel on off-center hits gives enough feedback on why you missed.
LOOK: It lives up to its name, with a bold blue color, lots of visible technology and even a smiley face on the flange; an innovative, symmetrical look makes alignment easy.

CONS

The Happy putter is sad news for fans of traditional, minimalist designs and classic colors; loses some distance on off-center hits; not enough differentiation in feel between center and off-center hits for some guys.

BOTTOM LINE: Adjustability — making enough alterations to get it exactly how you want — is key to this in-your-face putter. Technology buffs will love it — if they ever stop tinkering.
