First Look: Adams XTD Irons

February 7, 2014

Adans_long_1Designed for a wide variety of players, the new XTD irons ($599) from Adams feature an extremely thin clubface and cut-thru slots for maximum deflection and higher ball speeds and distance. In order to make the irons play more like hybrids, a unique cross-cavity design was added to move the center of gravity (CG) deep into the clubhead for improved launch, forgiveness and stability at impact.
“As opposed to the standard practice of strengthening irons lofts, we’re providing distance while retaining optimal ball flight,” said Justin Honea, Senior Director of Research and Development. “By integrating thinner faces and Cut-Thru Slot technology into irons, we’re making it much easier for players to produce higher, longer, straighter and more consistent shots.”
Other features include framed scorelines for more accurate alignment and a "pressure piston," in the back cavity that absorbs vibration at impact for improved feel and sound. XTD irons will ship to pro shops and specialty golf retailers on April 15, 2014. The seven-club all irons arrangement (4-PW) carries an MSRP of $599.99. If purchased with the XTD iron set, Pro hybrids may be substituted or added for $100 each. Stock steel shafts are the KBS Tour 90. For an additional $100 per set, Aldila graphite shafts may be ordered. For more information, retail locator and demo day availability, visit www.adamsgolf.
