Classy Reunion: Watson's Independence course.

Tom Watson earned 39 career victories on the PGA Tour, but none in Florida. He has finally left his mark on the Sunshine State with the opening of his Independence Course at the new Reunion Resort & Club. The resort also has an Arnold Palmer course, with a Jack Nicklaus design on tap for this year. Watson’s 7,257-yard layout is generous off the tee, but the greens have the bite of a Florida gator. And even if the terrain doesn’t rise to the “links-style” marketing buzz, it does feature more elevating change–and less hole-hugging houses–than most courses in town.

Greens fees are $100 for resort guests; villas start at $205. 877-REUNION;

Not far from Watson’s Reunion, ChampionsGate Resort is home to a pair of Greg Norman-designed courses and David Ledbetter’s academy, where PGA Tour pro-spotting is a popular past time. Visitors now have a place to hang their visors with the opening of the 730-room Omni Resort at ChampionsGate. A three-night stay costs $133 per night; the Stay & Play package is $385 and includes a room for two for one night and two rounds of golf. Both offers are valid until June 30.
