CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Tiger Woods is sticking to his long break after the Masters, meaning he will miss the Wells Fargo Championship next week.

Asked about Woods not playing Quail Hollow this year, agent Mark Steinberg replied in an email, “Accurate.''

Woods typically takes three weeks off after the year's first major. Because of a change in scheduling this year, the Wells Fargo Championship is only two weeks after the Masters.

According to Ron Green Jr. in The Charlotte Observer, Steinberg said the schedule was the main reason Woods decided to skip the Wells Fargo Championship.

"Tiger has tremendous respect for Johnny Harris, Kym Hougham and the tournament but the tour schedule is the overriding factor this year," Steinberg told The Charlotte Observer.

"Typically, Tiger likes to take three weeks off after the Masters. With a shorter time period after the Masters this year, that's the reason he won't be playing."

Steinberg also told The Charlotte Observer that  Woods didn't finalize his decision until recently.

"He had been looking at it for a bit and, post-Masters, he finally got his head around it," Steinberg said.

Woods won at Quail Hollow in 2007. He has missed the cut the last two times he played, in 2010 and 2012. He missed in 2011 trying to recover from leg injuries. Before the two missed cuts, his worst finish had been a tie for 11th.

The Wells Fargo Championship still has a strong field, featuring Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson.
