CINCINNATI (AP) — Tommy Gainey matched the Nationwide Tour’s 54-hole record of 24-under par on Saturday, and will take a four-shot lead into the final round of the Chiquita Classic.
After opening with rounds of 64 and 66, Gainey shot a 10-under 62 to match Arjun Atwal’s record set during the 2008 Chattanooga Classic.
Gainey’s round of 62 also matched the course record at TPC River Bend.
Colt Knost is alone in second at 20 under, Justin Smith is at 18 under and Peter Tomasulo, Joe Affrunti and Chris Kirk are another stroke back.
Gainey is trying to become the first two-time winner on the Nationwide Tour this season. He won the Melwood Prince George’s County Open for his first career victory last month.
