JOHANNESBURG (AP) – Ireland's Damien McGrane and England's Jamie Elson each shot an 8-under 63 to share the lead in the rainy first round at the Joburg Open on Thursday.
Nearly half the field, including defending champion Charl Schwartzel, failed to complete their rounds because of a four-hour rain delay at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club.
South Africa's Desvonde Botes was part of a three-way tie for third after a 65 on the East Course. He was tied with Reinier Saxton of the Netherlands and Peter Karmis of South Africa, who each shot 64 on the West Course.
Retief Goosen had a 66 on the West Course.
