Travelogue

Nemacolin Woodlands Resort's tagline is "expect the unexpected." A cliché... until it's not. Where else can one find a world-class art collection, a (real) tiger, an antique car museum, dueling zip lines, a climbing wall, casino, ski runs and (more central to this narrative), two muscular golf courses with serious championship chops? Welcome to the resort that 84 Lumber magnate Joseph Hardy built, which holds the rare distinction of hosting both a PGA Tour event and an episode of The Bachelorette. Mystic Rock spans the plateaued highlands of the Allegheny Mountains, and is even by Pete Dye's admission one of his most challenging East Coast designs. Shepherd's Rock, which opened in 2017 and was built by Dye protégé Tim Liddy, is a tad bit softer around the edges but holds its own with a 74.7 rating from the tips. Fear not, game improvement is available on-site. The Nemacolin Golf Academy (run by GOLF Magazine Top 100 Teacher Eric Johnson) features state-of-the-art technology and a cutting-edge fitting center where guests can have a custom set wrought on-site in just 24 hours.
