Jason Bohn recently told reporters that the heart attack he suffered in February was possibly “the greatest thing that could ever happen to me.” But Bohn’s surprising statement isn’t due to a new low-sodium diet or renewed sense of purpose in life. His happiness over what he called “one hell of mulligan” actually stems from what happened next for his mother, Carol.

Spurred by her son’s cardiac scare, Carol made a doctor’s appointment and completed a stress test. After the results came back, Carol had triple bypass surgery. In a roundabout way, Bohn’s heart attack may have saved her life.

After a break from golf following his hospitalization, Bohn returned to the Tour at the RBC Heritage earlier this month and he’ll also compete in the Zurich Classic this week.
