Its Old Course, known for unpredictable winds, narrow fairways, and deep rough is considered the most challenging of any course in the British Open Rota. The club was founded in 1878. Royal Troon last hosted the British Open in 2004 when Todd Hamilton defeated Ernie Els in a 4-hole playoff. 2016 will be Royal Troon 's ninth time hosting the British Open.
