Jason Day needed to start making birdies if he wanted to get in contention at Oakmont this year. On the par-5 12th hole, he did one better, chipping in for eagle in spectacular fashion. The cheers for the popular World No. 1 could apparently be heard throughout the property.
Prior to this shot, Day had made two bogeys and one birdie. He followed up the eagle with a birdie on the 13th hole and is in the hunt down the stretch at the U.S. Open
He’s now one under for the tournament and four shots behind leader Dustin Johnson. Can he keep up the momentum on the rest of the back nine?

Not much beats the back 9 of a major. https://t.co/95m6mEhBXg
