Friday was a big day for Steven Bowditch; and that didn't go unnoticed by the PGA Tour.
Dating back to the WGC-Cadillac Championship, Bowditch had racked up five-straight rounds of 80+ in World Golf Championship events (with four more rounds of 80+ coming between the two WGC events), but he was able to end that streak with a 2-over par 72 at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational on Friday.
That’s when things got funny.
The PGA Tour’s random drug testing policy has long been criticized for not being random at all. It is not uncommon for a player to shoot a super-low round only to be immediately whisked away to pee in a cup.
Chris Kirk documented his suspensions on Twitter back in January of 2015 when he tied the course record at the Plantation Course at Kapalua only to be drug tested two days later:
So, Bowditch hilariously followed suit. After ending his streak of bad play in WGC events, Bowditch was asked to take a drug test, leading him to tweet: “Not even the Tour can believe I broke 80.”
While he would obviously like to be playing better golf, you have to applaud Steven Bowditch for his sense of humor during this rough stretch.
