Tiger Woods' incredible third-straight U.S. Amateur victory is just one of the many accomplishments of his storied career. For the second man in that championship match, though, it was a life defining moment.
Steve Scott's golf career might have peaked when he pushed Woods to the brink 20 years ago in the 1996 U.S. Amateur. While Woods would go on to enormous heights in the sports world and Scott would become a golf pro, the moment was nonetheless a shared one. Both golfers recently sat down with GOLF Films to discuss that epic match.
Scott admits it changed his life, but not for the worse. "I’m constantly reminded about that day," Scott said. "If this particular event haunted me in some way, there’s no way I would be a golf pro. I wouldn’t be in the golf business. It’s in my DNA. This event is just part of my being.
"To be able to come back here and show the kids where mom and dad had their moment, it really makes me feel great. It really is a bow on the whole present."
