The St. Andrews Links Trust will license its first-ever overseas golf academy on Simapo Island, Hainan, China, some 6,000 miles away from the hallowed grounds of the home of the game in Scotland. China's booming economy makes it fertile ground for the growth of the sport and players will have their chance to experience it on an island in the Nandu River, located in China's southernmost province.

The golf academy will be attached to an 18-hole course designed by Tom Doak, whose Pacific Dunes in Bandon, Oregon, is No. 1 on GOLF Magazine's Top 100 Courses You Can Play.
