WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Thoughts from a continuing rain delay also known as the Honda Classic:

The storms and wind and rain are bad news for the golf tournament’s third round Saturday at PGA National Resort. The good news? Hey, surf’s up!...

I’m rooting for a Sunday pairing of Padraig Harrington and Brendan Steele because I’m pretty sure a Harrington Steele duo could win golf tournaments AND solve white-collar crimes…

If the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cups were merged so the Presidents Cup winner advanced to play the defending Ryder Cup champion, right now we’d be talking non-stop about the do-or-die situation for the Americans, who’d have to win the Presidents Cup in Korea or face not playing in the 2016 Ryder Cup. That would ratchet up interest in both events, plus make the Ryder Cup a truly global event by including the rest of the world...

I saw a headline where Sean Foley said “Tiger is in a better place right now” and wondered if that story got mixed up with a wire story about Leonard Nimoy…

The Honda Classic needs to finish on Sunday or risk bumping into a major championship on Monday -- the pro-member tournament at nearby Seminole Golf Club, which a lot of Tour players look forward to and really is a big deal…

You’ll never guess who leads the PGA Tour statistics in putting, the obscure “strokes-gained-putting” stat -- claw-stroker Sergio Garcia…

If the Olympics held its golf tournament this week, the last two members of the men’s 60-player field would be Adilson da Silva of Brazil, ranked 326th in the world, and Arie Ahmad Irawan of Malaysia, ranked 340th. Might as well let the Jamaican bobsled team in, too…

Honda 36-hole leader Harrington is the runaway leader in sponsor exemptions on the PGA Tour this year. Harrington, a former British Open and PGA champion, has already received seven exemptions to play. Before Honda, he had made only two cuts and won just over $26,000 using those exemptions. Now it’s looking like a pretty good call giving Harrington a spot…

Jim Herman is tied for sixth place at the Honda Classic. No sign of the rest of the Hermits, however…

Donald Trump pulls off his annual feat next week -- two of his resort courses host PGA Tour tournaments at the same time. Trump Doral holds the World Golf Championship event while Trump International Golf Course hosts the Puerto Rico Open for the Tour’s next-best players in, you guessed it, Puerto Rico. It’s a unique feat but I’m sure Trump is far too humble to mention it…

The World Match Play Championship, which moved from Tucson to San Francisco’s Harding Park this year, will relocate next year to Austin, Texas. Austin Country Club is expected to be the tournament site. The event’s new sponsor is Dell Computer. Which means that calls about tournament ticket information will probably be routed to India…

When play was called for the day Saturday afternoon an hour before the second-rounder leaders were scheduled to go to the tee, missing the cut at the Honda Classic suddenly didn’t seem like such a bad break…
