Safeway Open Alternate Promises Dinner for Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods WDs from Safeway, Turkish Airlines Opens
Tiger Woods announced Monday that his game was not where he wanted it to be, withdrawing from both the Safeway Open this week and the Turkish Airlines Open in November.

Tiger Woods’s departure from the field at the Safeway Open may have been unfortunate for many in the golf world, but not Max Homa.

The 26-year-old and recent Tour graduate was the first alternate Monday morning, and jumped into the field Monday afternoon after Woods announced his withdrawal. Homa’s last PGA Tour event was coincidentally also Woods’s last event, the 2015 Wyndham Championship. Woods finished T10 and Homa missed the cut.

On Monday, their careers converged again, and Homa was quite appreciative after receiving the news.

Max Homa was the first alternate to be added to the Safeway Open field when Tiger Woods announced his withdrawal.
