Tiger Woods will be a big-time attraction at the Ryder Cup even though he won't take a single swing.
According to captain Davis Love, he thinks the crowds at Hazeltine National later this month will be keenly interested in just seeing the 14-time major champion back on a golf course. Even if it is just talking into a radio or riding around in a cart.
"I can’t imagine what it is going to be like to have Tiger Woods on a golf cart watching a group of guys play golf," Love said on SiriusXM radio. "Half the fans are going to be watching Tiger watch golf, they’re not going to be watching the golf."
Woods has been out of the spotlight the entire year, save for a few publicity appearances every now and then. Even though he's not one of the 12 players competing, Woods will still be the most notable golfer onsite.
"When I was assistant captain for Corey I just faded into the background, I was just another guy in a cart working," Love said. "I don’t think Tiger can do that. I don’t think he’s going to fade into the background even at that big an event. We haven’t seen Tiger. He’s been a ghost for a year on the golf course. He’s going to show up at the Ryder Cup with our team uniforms on and I think that says a lot for our team."
