Even though Rory McIlroy missed the cut at the Irish Open, a Euro Tour event he’s hosting, he still found a way to make headlines on Sunday.
In the final round of the tournament, McIlroy showed up hand-in-hand with Erica Stoll, the first public appearance for the couple who have been linked together for on various occasions in the past few months.
McIlroy didn’t mention Stoll by name in his quotes, but acknowledged he was in a relationship to The Times of London Magazine.
“I have met someone new,” McIlroy said in the interview. “She doesn’t play golf, but she is involved with golf. I have known her for three years and we are good friends. If everything off the golf course is good, it allows you to be better on it as well.”
McIlroy and Stoll have history together, as Stoll was the PGA of America employee who assisted in getting McIlroy to his Sunday tee time at the 2012 Ryder Cup. Stoll was a transport official at the event and still works for the PGA of America.
“I am very happy in my love life,” he said. “We haven’t really been putting it out there. She is from America, which is why I like to spend time in Palm Beach. The past six or seven months have been really nice. That part of my life is going great.”
