Rory McIlroy Drains 55 Consecutive Putts on Practice Green

Now we know why Rory McIlroy couldn’t buy a putt Sunday during the Tour Championship. He wasted them all on the practice green prior to the round.

Golf Channel caught McIlroy in a moment of true brilliance before Sunday's showdown with Billy Horschel as the 25-year-old Northern Irishman drained 55 consecutive putts from what looks to be about 8-10 feet. He then misses No. 56, and Rich Lerner jokes that McIlroy failed to tie Joe DiMaggio’s record.

McIlroy was leading the tour in putts per green in regulation heading into the Tour Championship and managed to finish the season atop the list at 1.708. That's despite a poor putting performance Sunday that ultimately cost him the FedEx Cup. Still, Rory showed great improvement on the greens this year. He finished the 2014 season 41st in strokes gained putting after finishing a dismal 117th in 2013.
