Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods made almost $9 million combined on the golf course last year.

Phil Mickelson may not have the overwhelming career credentials of Tiger Woods, but he's ahead of Woods on at least one list.

Mickelson was the top earning golfer last year, according Fortune's annual list of highest earning athletes in the United States. Mickelson came in sixth on the "Fortunate 50" list, while Woods came in seventh.

Although nine golfers made more money on Tour than Mickelson from April 2013 through May 2014, several lucrative endorsement deals pushed him over the top. He made $33 million away from the course last year, edging Woods, who raked in $31 million from deals with Nike and Rolex, among others.

Mickelson and Woods are the only two golfers on the list, headlined by undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather, who made $105 million last year.

On the International 20 list, Rory McIlroy is 13th, having earned $24,623,639 over the last 12 months.
