"Oh no, not again!"
That was Phil Mickelson's reaction when he hit his tee shot into a hospitality tent left of the green on the 291-yard par-4 5th hole at Ridgewood Country Club in the third round of the Barclays on Saturday. Mickelson drove it into the same tent on Friday, hit his recovery shot into a greenside bunker -- after declining a fan's offer of a beer -- and made bogey on the hole.
However, on Saturday morning, in front of a far smaller and more sober crowd, Mickelson displayed the short-game wizardry that's made him a legend. With no view of the pin, Mickelson pitched the ball over the tent and hit the green, stopping the ball about 20 feet from the pin. He missed the birdie try but had a tap-in for an all-world par. The Ridgewood Country Club's grounds crew had some fun with Mickelson's recovery shots on Twitter.
Mickelson ended up shooting 75 on Saturday and is four over par for the tournament, far behind the leaders. Still we can't wait to see what he does on the 5th hole Sunday.
