Phil Mickelson Flies Home Between US Open Practice Rounds
OAKMONT, Pa. -- Phil Mickelson is making a pit stop between U.S. Open practice rounds.
Mickelson, who is an Open victory away from the career grand slam, played a practice round at Oakmont Country Club Monday before he planned to fly home to Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., for the eighth-grade graduation of his daughter, Sophia, on Tuesday.
A Mickelson spokesman confirmed the news to ESPN and said he would be back at Oakmont for a practice round Wednesday.
This isn't the first time Mickelson has traveled home during Open week. He also made the trip in 2013 for his daughter Amanda's eighth-grade graduation the week of the U.S. Open at Merion. That week, Mickelson shot a Sunday 72 and tied for second, two strokes behind winner Justin Rose.
Mickelson tees off at 2:09 p.m. Thursday with Rose and Henrik Stenson.
