Nick Faldo to Play Final British Open at St. Andrews

Nick Faldo will play in his final British Open this July at St. Andrews.

Nick Faldo will join Tom Watson in celebrating his final British Open this summer at St. Andrews.

Faldo, a three-time British Open champion, won the 1990 Open held at St. Andrews. He claimed two more claret jugs at Muirfield in 1987 and 1992. In 36 career British Opens, he also had one runner-up finish, one third-place finish and 13 top-10s.

“The Open and St Andrews will forever hold a significant place in my heart," Faldo said in a press release. "My fondest moments on my journey with this great sport are woven with pictures and emotions in this setting. It all means a huge amount to me. I look forward to celebrating all that golf has given me as I cross that storied bridge and the wonderful memories I share with many people."

At the Masters, Faldo told GOLF Magazine's Cameron Morfit he wouldn't be expecting much in his grand finale at the Open.

“Sir Nick Faldo is an inspirational figure in British golf and has enjoyed a remarkable career in The Open," Peter Dawson, the chief executive of the R&A, said in the release. "I’m sure there will be great anticipation among the galleries at St Andrews to see him play in The Open once again and he will receive a rousing ovation worthy of a great champion.”

Faldo will join Watson as the third legend to make a final appearance in a major, as the Masters said goodbye to two-time champion Ben Crenshaw in April.
