The new show will track the process of designing a driver, from start to finish.

A new television show this fall will bring golf club designers' dreams to life.

Call it Shark Tank for golf.

The show, Driver vs. Driver, which debuts Oct. 4 on Golf Channel, will pit 11 driver designers against one another. The winning designer will receieve $500,000 and and have his or her driver model designed, marketed and sold to the public by Wilson Golf. (Wilson is sponsoring the show.)

The designs and process will be judged by former NFL Linebacker Brian Urlacher, former USGA Technical Director Frank Thomas, Wilson Golf President Tim Clarke as well as Tour player Kevin Streelman (beginning in the third episode). The show will be hosted by Big Break co-host Melanie Collins.

The 11 finalists — who range in age from 21 to 59 — include engineers, PhD students, a former golf pro, and even a former art teacher.

Among the proposed designs are a driver made from renewably sourced bio-product, a micro-honeycomb design modelled after Formula 1 cars, and a driver with the crown of a 3-wood to help improve control.
