Mickey Wright dominated the LPGA between 1958 and 1966, winning 13 majors with a swing that Ben Hogan called the best he ever saw. SI's Herbert Warren Wind described her as "a tall, good-looking girl who struck the ball with the same decisive hand action that the best men players use." But the gifted Wright, who disliked bright sunlight and airplane flights, went into semiretirement at age 34, leaving fans an indelible image of a golf genius who saw the game clearly through her trademark glasses. Pro golf, said the Stanford psychology major, "provided my own version of a master's degree in psychology."\n
